In Memoriam: Don McDowell

Posted: December 17, 2019

With a heavy heart, CAPA announces the passing of our longest-standing volunteer Don McDowell.

In 1970, Don helped book The Alamo at the Ohio Theatre, ultimately beginning the beloved CAPA Summer Movie Series that still runs today. Next year would have been his 50th year volunteering for CAPA.

With a great appreciation for our theatres and all the art forms that pass through them, Don embodied everything it means to be a CAPA volunteer. His memory lives on in our hearts and through every summer movie played at the Ohio Theatre.

In his own words to those interested in volunteering: “They need to enjoy theatre and people. And throw in music and ballet, for that matter. It’s been a very rewarding experience for me.”

In 2019, Don was recognized as CAPA's longest-standing volunteer at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event. He is pictured below with his family, as well as his framed Alamo poster with a golden ticket, giving him and his family a lifetime of unlimited admissions to the CAPA Summer Movie Series in his honor.
