CAPA Announces Winners of the 2022 CAPA Marquee Awards Presented by American Electric Power Foundation

The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) today announced the winners in all 11 categories of the 2022 CAPA Marquee Awards presented by American Electric Power Foundation. Designed to celebrate, support, and advocate for high school musical theatre education throughout central Ohio, the program evaluated nominated high school musical theatre students and productions from 18 participating high schools.
The winners of each category were announced at the 2022 CAPA Marquee Awards student showcase held on Tuesday, May 10. Modeled after the Tony® Awards, the event included performances from the nominees for Best Musical Production, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as opening and closing numbers that incorporated nominated students from all participating high schools.

Winners Bella Price and Wyatt Kerns are the official Jimmy Award® nominees for “Jimmys Week,” a 10-day professional training intensive with theatre professionals and industry experts, and will compete on the national level for the 2022 Jimmy Awards® for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.
About Bella Price
Bella Price is a graduating senior from Westerville South High School. She has been heavily involved with her school’s theatre program all four years, being a part of 20 performances in total. Notable credits include Into the Woods (Witch), Oklahoma! (Ado Annie), Bright Star (Alice Murphy), and Footloose (Rusty). Price has won multiple awards including Best Actress and Best Actress of the Season in her school’s theatre program, as well as regional recognition, scoring a double superior on multiple individual events for Ohio Thespians. Outside of theatre, Price enjoys writing, playing guitar and piano, and expanding her wardrobe. She will pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in the fall of 2022.
About Wyatt Kerns
Wyatt Kerns is a graduating senior from Worthington Christian Upper School where he has been a proud member of the theatre department, working on and off the stage. Credits include Big Fish (Zacky Price), You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Linus Van Pelt), Godspell (Featured Ensemble), and The SpongeBob Musical (Squidward Q. Tentacles). Kerns has also performed in shows with CATCO including High School Musical Jr. (Troy Bolton). He has been a member of Worthington Christian’s High School Men’s Choir, Mixed Choir, and Chorale, and has also participated in the Ohio Music Education Association solo and ensemble contest, receiving superior ratings for six consecutive years. Outside of his time in theatre, Kerns enjoys studying music theory, composing music, reading, dancing in tap class, and continuing his study in voice. He will be attending The Ohio State University School of Music to study choral music education with a minor in vocal performance.

The Jimmy Awards®/The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA®) program impacts more than 140,000 students who participate in 46 regional high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by presenters of touring Broadway productions throughout the United States. Presented by The Broadway League Foundation, the NHSMTA invites one Best Actress and one Best Actor nominee from each local regional ceremony to New York City for a week-long theatre intensive that includes coaching, training, and rehearsing led by some of Broadway’s most accomplished professionals. Nominees will spend one week in New York City from Monday, June 20, 2022, through Tuesday, June 28, 2022, and their combined efforts throughout the week will lead to one extraordinary talent showcase performed live in front of an audience on a Broadway stage.
