Celebrate New Year's Eve at the Shubert! THE TEMPTATIONS REVIEW featuring DENNIS EDWARDS knows how to generate wonderful memories as they entertain audiences around the globe. For more than 33 years Dennis Edwards, one of the last surviving members of the legendary group “The Temptations,” has been considered a giant in the music industry. View video of other upcoming events on the Shubert Theater's You Tube channel. Dennis Edwards was the first new Temptation to enter the group after their "classic five" heyday when he replaced David Ruffin as lead singer in 1968. With his rougher, gospel-hewn vocals, Edwards led the group during its most successful period. Shortly after Edwards joined the group The Temptations released “Cloud Nine,” the first of their singles to feature Dennis Edwards instead of David Ruffin. “Cloud Nine,” the centerpiece of the group’s landmark Cloud Nine LP, was a Top 10 hit and won the group and Motown its first Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group in 1968. A string of hits followed including “I Can’t Get Next to You,” the second of the group’s four number-one hits on the U.S. pop charts and one of the best-selling singles the group released; “Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today),” and one of the group’s most memorable songs, “Papa Was a Rollin' Stone,” which won The Temptations their second Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group in 1973. Utilizing his unique style, and smooth delivery, Dennis Edwards is known as one of the most influential singers in the history of Pop music. His 1989 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and his 1999 induction into the Alabama Hall of Fame confirm this fact. The sales of over 100,000,000 recordings move audiences across the generations, from pre-teen, to mature citizen.
